Best meal in the whole province the week we were there. Amazing food, presentation and service.

Our meal here was as perfect as I thought it would be. The jiggs dinner cabbage rolls and the moose served in a burgundy pinot noir sauce with blueberries and bacon were absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere, service and food was perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant! Our server was Tracy and she was so wonderful! Thanks!

I was here with my wonderful husband and my two lovely children, for my birthday. We ordered the wonderful food, and ate it all. It filled us all up. It was a wonderful day and night, and I absolutely recommend everyone to go there. It was an memory that I shall never forget. It was classy, and just simply wonderful. I’m definitely coming back again! PS: The waiters were so friendly! :)

My two sisters and I visited Bacalao last night and I must say, we were so impressed with everything – from the atmosphere to the service and of course the food – it was all amazing! Thank you for a wonderful evening out!

My husband and I were in NF for a wedding (his 1st trip). We had spent the day sightseeing and were hungry for something not “fast food.” We say the ad for Bacalao at the Delta Hotel. We hoofed it up Barter’s Hill and suffice it to say we were not disappointed. My husband’s halibut was the best he had ever tasted with the lime/butterscotch/miso sauce. I had the risotto. Excellent!! We shared the calamari as an appetizer. Fantastic. We recommended this place to a fellow CFA who was attending the same wedding. Kudos for your menu, your staff and your work with local suppliers.

On the evening of July 7th, my wife and I had our very first experience with dining in this magnificent restaurant. Friends from Ontario were visiting and, wanting to try authentic NL cuisine excluding fast-food fish ‘n chips, asked us to recommend a place to eat. We chose Bacalao because we had heard excellent reports and hadn’t been there before. What a marvelous eating experience! Our waitress was superb – friendly without being imposing, professional, yet very relaxed, and displaying such knowledge of the restaurant’s offerings as to be quite impressive. Service was fast, but yet allowed plenty of time for both digestion and conversation. My wife and both of our companions had the pan-fried cod that evening, while I tried the seafood medley. We all raved at both the taste and the presentation. Entrees were preceded by appetizers which included mussels, cod tongue salad, and a very strange-sounding soup. There were so many mussels that they had to be shared! The desserts were to die for!! We will highly recommend this restaurant to both locals and CFA’s, and will definitely be back. Congratulations to all.

Back in January of 2010, my boyfriend and I decided to celebrate our one-year anniversary at Bacalao in St. John’s. I had been there once previously for a work Christmas party and could not wait to share the wonderful menu with Josh. Besides it being a very special occasion for us, the night was made even more amazing with the wonderful service we received from the staff. The menu specials were delicious (pan seared scallops as well as duck) and we were completely blown away with the dessert: cardamom flourless chocolate cake! Andrea paired both of our meals with great wine, and we were even sent home with two free dessert coupons for our next visit and some reusable shopping bags. We have raved about our experience to all of our friends ever since!

Our visit to Bacalao at the Clarenville Inn today was wonderful as well. Although undergoing renovations the atmosphere was still very relaxing and service was again excellent. It was our first time trying the lunch menu and we were just as satisfied with it as we were when we shared our first visit back in January.

We will most definitely be back again – Keep up the amazing work!!!

We were very impressed with Bacalao! The menu was very interesting and I can’t wait to go back to try something else. Crab stuffed spring rolls are a nice idea and the seafood risotto was perfect, I have had it at other restaurants earlier this year and yours was the best by far. Even my ‘picky’ partner loved it and found more than one thing on the menu he would like. Everybody who worked there smiled at us and service was good. I am telling everybody about you!

We visited your restaurant for lunch with my brother and sister-in-law and loved your emphasis on the local Newfoundland food. The presentataion was done with a flair, the taste was great and the service friendly, attentive and accommodating. We expecailly liked you partridge berry fiz and the ginger cake is unique and the best we’ve ever tasted. We’ll be back the next time we visit St. John’s. Kudo’s to the chef, and staff.

On my recent vacation to St. John’s, visiting Bacalao was at the top of my to-do list…and it did not disappoint. We ate there with groups of family and friends on two occasions, once for Saturday brunch and again for a Friday night dinner. The atmosphere was quaint, the service was fun and friendly, and the food was excellent. Not only is Bacalao’s take on Newfoundland cuisine extraordinary, but most importantly the food tastes great and looks great. From the breads, spreads, salt cod fritters, cod tongues, pot liquor shooters, halibut and caribou, everything was expertly prepared, fresh and well seasoned. I know where I’ll be going to eat the next time I get off the plane in St. John’s. You should be proud of what you have established! Top notch indeed.
